Ladies and gentlemen,
And it's finally upon us, the first game of the season.
After a great performance last Sunday in the preparation game, the Babas are ready to start off their league campaign with a bang as they take on Antwerp. With plenty of support from juniors and many news faces joining this year, this first match should be a first determined step to a great season, on a special year for the club celebrating its 40th anniversary.
Kick-off is at 15.00 on Sunday in the Elephant Pitch and we would like to have as many friends supporting us as possible. Bring on the cheerleaders, the streakers, the drums & trumpets and Mexican waves. Every friendly face counts!
We look forward to seeing you all there for some fine rugby!

Brussels Barbarians got the new season off to a flying start yesterday with a convincing win over 4th division opposition Schilde. Taking to the field under the new captaincy of Bernardo Rodrigues and with a large British School contingent, the Babas complimented the hot, dry conditions with some great running rugby.
Split into 4 quarters of 20 minutes and refereed according to the new experimental laws, the match was well fought and kept the large crowd at the elephant pitch entertained on what was a sweltering Sunday afternoon. The Barbarians started brightly, the half back pairing of Patrick Start and Sam Rowlands working well and resulting in the first try of the afternoon as the Babas number 10 skipped through for an early try - which became a familiar sight by the end of the match. Three more tries followed in the quarter and the Babas had their tails up heading into the second period. As was too often the case last season though, Schilde were allowed to get back into the game with two tries of their own and the Babas went into the third quarter determined to take back control of the game.
This they did successfully but only after some gritty defence on their own line, with some great hits coming in from the forwards and Karl Meiring making some crucial tackles in the centre. The Babas responded with some great running rugby; backs and forwards interchanging well and mixing pace and agility with brute strength and aggression.
By the time the fourth period started it was clear that the pre season training sessions had been worth it as the Barbarians superior fitness allowed them to open up the Schilde defence. Some great work by the pack led to a quick turnover in the middle of the park, followed by an injection of pace by the backs who sent the ball wide to Shane Massinon who went over in the corner to score. As the clock ticked on, so did the score line and Schilde looked genuinely relieved when the final whistle was blown. The Babas will go into their next match, the first league game of the season at home to Antwerp, with a lot of confidence. However, their second division opposition will be a far tougher test and the Babas will have to step up their contact skills if they want to get the league season off to a good start. Nevertheless, it was demonstrated yesterday that there is no substitute for pace and if Babas can set a solid platform for the backs to work off, there are tries in this team. Report by Joe Buxton
