2011 Sunday November the 13th 3 PM
After a two-weeks break, the Baa-baas were hungry for rugby and hungry for victory. On a very foggy day, they emerged together from the changing rooms with the will the fight for one another and exhibiting nasty and aggressive faces. The atmosphere before the game was tense, the Baa-baas concentrated on listening to the war-like words of their coach, Arnaud.
Arendonk won the toss and elected to kick-off. The beginning of the game was not to the advantage of the Baa-baas who spent the first five minutes camped in their own 22. Arendonk's giants, led by Vercingetorix, came within centimeters of the try line, yet their assaults were stopped by an iron defense. However, Arendonk finally converted their chances through a penalty (3-0). The Baa-baas came back in the game and after the first difficult minutes they were starting to assert some domination on the game. A good lineout in the opposite twenty-two formed the basis for Patrick to take and beat two or three players to score the first try of the game, converted by Nick straight after. The Baa-baas were now unstoppable,
being aggressive in defense and in the scrums, breaking the opposite line and stealing balls in the rucks. A penalty tapped by Julien ten meters from the try line of Arendonk led to Pierre destroying the opposition to score the second try of the game.
The game proceeded with more tension and aggression from both teams, and Antoine, after a contretemps with an opposition player, was to be found bleeding from the face on the ground. The hero of the day had to leave the pitch and was replaced by Oli at inside center. This did not stop the baa-baas, rather to the contrary it contributed to increase the aggressiveness of the team. The Baa-baas were continuously pushing and the game was played out in the Arendonk half. From a line-out, their fly-half Nick took the ball and slalomed around the Arendonk line to score the third try of the match, which he duly converted. Michel, just before the end of the half, took the ball on the wing to score the fourth try (24 – 3).
The second half started with the same intensity as the first. The Baa-baas were soon in Arendonk's territory once more, the pack moving forward with good mauls and Bernardo stealing a lot of balls from the opponents in the air. However, after 5 or 10 minutes, the Baa-baas' machine was less powerful and the match was now became more balanced. Nevertheless, Baa-baas' defense was a solid bulwark to the attacks of Arendonk. Five minutes before the end of the game, Patrick scored the final try of the game in the right corner (29 - 3).
The referee blew the final whistle and Baa-baas were headed to celebrate this massive win in the Europa. A great win obtained with passion and aggression after four consecutive defeats: like true champions, they did not quit, coming back stronger from this tricky period. The Baa-baas are now looking to the rest of the championship with their heads up, hoping to repeat the same team performance.
The rest is for the record: celebrations at the local pub, 3 new players baptized in the customary manner (technically, two were already gone, meaning substitutes in their stead) and 5 stitches for Antoine. 29-3, and looking forward Brigandze next week!
