IRB Level 1 Coaching Quals gained by BBRFC, BSB and Gent

The weekend of the 22nd January 2010 saw around 20 eager hopefuls turn up at the Brtish School of Brussels to try and gain their IRB Level 1 Coaching Quals.

We had a real mix of age, ability and nationalities but we all had one goal, to get our certificate at the end of the 3 days. (From the BBRFC we had Ari Heinz, Anna Blomkvist, Jo Wilkinson, laura Dowsett and marco Migliosi).

The Two coaches to teach/coach us were Dusty Millar and Lofty Stephenson, a couple of great chaps who complimented one another well in the classroom and who added a touch of humour to keep things light-hearted!

The Assessment consisted of Classroom white-board sessions, video analysis, being coached by the coaches then the dreaded individual practical, the delivery of a coaching session!

We all had fun and I think we all got a lot out of it as well as all being successful at gaining the IRB accreditation!

It was another successful event where the BBRFC and the BSB came together to participate and make our joint-venture stronger in it's relationship. It was great to have participants come through from Gent as well, i think they also gained a lot from the Course.

Now that we have so many people qualified, we can get out points from the Vivaldi Commission and also give our new and exisitng players the confidence that they are receiving quality coaching! (Neil Marks already has his level 1 and is onto his level 2 now!)

I'd like to say a big thank you to the following people for making the weekend happen: Stu Dowsett, Brian Pratt, the IRB and RFU, Caron Davies and of course, our Course leaders, Dusty and Lofty!

We're all now looking forward to our Level 2 Course!

Barbarians

We have an exciting weekend of home fixtures for the Senior teams in the club. The schedule is as follows:

Saturday 28 November

BBRFC Ladies vs Dendermonde - 3PM Kick off at the Elephant Field in Tervuren.

(We have a lot of new girls who will be making their debuts on Saturday so they could use a lot of vocal support. Post match will be held at the James Joyce where a large round of initiations will take place)

Sunday 29 November

BBRFC 2nd XV vs Waregen 1 PM Kick Off at the Elephant Field in Tervuren.

(The Second team needs players! If you are a vet or are new to rugby and want to give it a go, then get licensed and help ensure the second XV end the year on a high!)

BBRFC 1st XV vs Kibubu 3PM Kick Off at the Elephant Field in Tervuren

(The first XV are on a high after their win last week! Lets all get down to offer lots of support to our first team!)

Don’t forget to keep recruiting for our awesome club!

We apologise for being a little bit late in putting this report up on the website. From Friday 18 to Sunday 20 September we were very pleased to have Saracens Community Coaches -  Sam Fulling and James Coles - present in Brussels to organise a "Coach the Coaches" weekend. Special thanks go to Le Meridien Hotel - THE BEST HOTEL in Brussels - for providing their accomodation. In summary, 39 people attended the various weekend coaching sessions over the 3 days: 2 Saracens Community Coaches, 3 BSB Teachers, 8 BSB A-level students,  22 BSB parent coaches and 4 BBRFC coaches. This is the first in a series of courses we plan to organise to improve the standard of our club's playing ability. Read the report on Sarries website: http://www.saracens.com/news/view.php?Id=5549
